The primary research question guiding this dissertation is: “How do you maintain engagement in a simulation game?” Through this question, I explore various aspects such as dynamic difficulty adjustment, gameplay mechanics, narrative depth, and the role of immersive environments in keeping players invested in the game.

To support my research, I analysed three popular simulation games: Cities: Skylines, Stardew Valley, and The Sims 4. Each of these games exemplifies successful engagement strategies, from dynamic city-building challenges to immersive farming and life simulation experiences.

My findings highlight the importance of combining various engagement techniques to create captivating simulation games. By understanding and implementing these elements, game developers can craft experiences that not only entertain but also educate and inspire players.
