I have always had a deep passion and commitment to the field of game development and computer science, as I pursue my studies in my Games Development course. My name is Lewis Whitham, and I am an 18-year-old college student with a strong desire to make a meaningful impact in this exciting industry.
I have proficient experience with an array of applications, which have proved helpful in learning new skills. I am confident using Blender, Adobe Animate/Photoshop and multiple game engines such as Game Maker, Roblox Studio and Unreal Engine. I also have experience in animation and 3D design which I have acquired through my many college projects. I am eager to gain experience and knowledge in the tech industry and I am confident I can contribute to the success of any organization.
My journey into the world of game development has been driven by a love for programming and the incredible potential it holds in shaping the games development field. Through my coursework and personal projects, I have developed my programming skills over many years in a vast selection of languages, including C++, Python, JavaScript, and Luau.
Beyond the classroom, my hobbies include both programming and gaming. I derive immense joy from both playing and developing games, ensuring I use the best practices such as readable and performant code and always thinking about the player. I know that a strong, well-planned foundation, coupled with efficient teamwork and effective communication can lead to projects with significant success. This understanding has been invaluable in my projects during college and will continue to be in my future career.
My academic history reflects my commitment to excellence, with solid grades in English, Maths, and Science during my prior school years. In college, I obtained a certificate in IT and successfully completed the first year Level 3 Diploma in Games Development, with my journey now continuing into the second year.
One of my most significant college achievements was leading our first-year final major project; a small 2D Tower defence game. As the team leader, I was responsible for managing a diverse group of individuals, fostering teamwork, and identifying and utilising everyone’s strengths to better affect.
Active listening played a pivotal role as I encouraged team members to share their creative ideas and solutions to project challenges. We held detailed discussions on sprites and game mechanics, ensuring that our game not only played smoothly but also looked visually appealing and played engagingly.
By embracing effective communication and delegation, we collectively overcame obstacles and delivered a game that exceeded expectations. The project showcased our technical skills, teamwork, and my leadership abilities. This experience reinforces my commitment to the field, where creativity and collaboration are the keys to success.
Looking ahead, my aspiration is to contribute to the dynamic field of game development. I am excited to learn new things and enhance my skills, and deep knowledge of programming to bring innovative gaming experiences to life.
In conclusion, I am eager to embark on the next phase of my educational journey and continue my pursuit of excellence in game development and computer science. I believe that my passion, skills, and determination make me a valuable asset to your community. I hope you will consider my application, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to and learn from your institution.
Thank you for considering my application.
